Clarification from the administration of Aïn Sebaâ 1 local prison: Inmate (Z.K.) who died at CHU Ibn Rochd suffered from kidney failure and cardiovascular disease
The inmate (Z.K.), who passed away on Friday at the Ibn Rochd University Hospital Center, had been suffering from kidney failure and a cardiovascular disease during his lifetime, according to the administration of Aïn Sebaâ 1 local prison.

In a clarification statement, the prison administration stressed that allegations circulated on certain social media platforms claiming that the inmate’s death resulted from medical negligence are unfounded. It recalled that the deceased had been held in pre-trial detention at Aïn Sebaâ 1 local prison on charges of forming a criminal gang, assault and battery, and drug trafficking.
The administration further specified that the individual died on February 20, 2026, at the Ibn Rochd University Hospital Center, where he had been admitted since February 2, 2026, due to kidney failure and cardiovascular disease.
