Morocco and São Tomé and Príncipe committed to strengthening economic cooperation, says Nasser Bourita

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, stated on Tuesday in Rabat that Morocco and the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe are determined to strengthen their economic cooperation.
Speaking to the press following his talks with São Tomé and Príncipe’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Communities, Elsa Maria dos Santos Amado Vaz, Bourita said his counterpart will hold a meeting on Wednesday with Moroccan business leaders to explore ways of enhancing bilateral economic relations.
The minister noted that both sides agreed to establish a follow-up mechanism for all the points included in the cooperation roadmap for the 2025–2027 period, as well as to hold a joint commission meeting in the city of Laâyoune during the coming year.
Bourita recalled that this roadmap includes several commitments and measures aimed at implementing the vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to strengthen relations between the two countries. He added that discussions also focused on the level of implementation of this roadmap, reviewing achievements, delays and obstacles encountered.
He also praised São Tomé and Príncipe’s consistent positions in support of the Moroccan Sahara issue, as well as its backing of Morocco’s candidacies within both the African Union and the United Nations, stressing that the country has always been a loyal ally of the Kingdom in regional and international forums. He further highlighted São Tomé and Príncipe’s adherence to Morocco’s Atlantic initiative.
Regarding the internal situation in São Tomé and Príncipe, Bourita said that the Kingdom is closely monitoring developments in the country, recalling Morocco’s continued support for its political and institutional stability.
