Relations Between Morocco, Senegal Constitute Reference for HM The King in Terms of Moroccan-African Ties – FM
The relations between Morocco and Senegal constitute a reference to His Majesty King Mohammed VI in terms of Moroccan-African ties, said, on Monday in Rabat, the minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Mr. Nasser Bourita.
During a joint press briefing with his Senegalese peer, Mr. Cheikh Niang, following their meeting, Mr. Bourita emphasized that the ties uniting the two countries are continuously getting stronger under the leadership of His Majesty the King and the President of the Republic of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye.
The visit paid by Senegalese minister of Foreign Affairs to Morocco is his first bilateral trip since his nomination in September, which reflects the depth and solidity of the ties between the two countries, he noted.
Senegal is the most visited African country by the Sovereign with nine official visits, the minister recalled, pointing out that the only time HM the King addressed his people from abroad was in Dakar, which illustrates, according to Mr. Bourita, the particular place that the Sovereign grants to the strengthening of the ties between Morocco and Senegal.
After underlining that the Moroccan-Senegalese ties rest on solid foundations and touch on strong human, religious, economic and security dimensions, the minister indicated that the visit of the Senegalese official has a great importance in that it contributes to concretizing the ambition of His Majesty the King and the Senegalese President in promoting these ties.
On another note, Mr. Bourita said that the two sides have agreed, during this meeting, to floor on the upcoming holding of a joint commission between the heads of government of the two countries, which shall serve as a starting point for the signing of existing agreements, while preparing for the summit meeting between His Majesty the King and the Senegalese President, which is set to provide an opportunity for the signing and announcement of new strategic guidelines.
As part of the strengthening of bilateral economic ties, the minister noted that Senegal is a key actor in the African Atlantic Gas Pipeline project, as a gas-producing country and a central link in the pipeline route, with a fundamental vision for this major project for West Africa.
Morocco and Senegal are two major regional stakeholders, due to their weight and credibility within several regional and international bodies, Mr. Bourita noted, highlighting His Majesty the King’s continuous desire to involve Senegal in all initiatives launched by the Sovereign, particularly those related to African and Atlantic initiatives, given Senegal’s role as a hub of stability and development in the Atlantic African region.
