Nouakchott: Morocco takes part in the Senior Officials Segment of the 34th FAO Regional Conference
A delegation from the Kingdom of Morocco took part on Monday in Nouakchott in the Senior Officials Segment of the 34th FAO Regional Conference for Africa (ARC34), being held from April 13 to 17.
The Moroccan delegation participating in this meeting, which precedes the ministerial segment of the Conference organized under the theme “Sustaining the Transformation of Agrifood Systems in Africa: Innovate, Collaborate and Invest,” is led by Morocco’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations agencies based in Rome, Youssef Balla.
The Segment brings together high-level representatives tasked with reviewing working documents and formulating strategic recommendations to be submitted for adoption by ministers.
Morocco’s participation in this segment reflects its constant commitment to sustainable, resilient and inclusive agriculture in Africa. In this context, Morocco is actively contributing to discussions focused in particular on regional priorities for transforming agrifood systems, mechanisms for implementing FAO programs in Africa, and strengthening resilience in the face of climate and economic challenges.
In recognition of its continued commitment and active role within the governance bodies of the United Nations agencies in Rome, the Kingdom of Morocco was elected Vice-President of the Conference. This appointment reflects the confidence of African member states and highlights Morocco’s constructive contribution to FAO work, as well as to the promotion of stronger African cooperation in food security and agricultural development.
Drawing on its experience, notably after hosting the previous edition (ARC33) in 2024, Morocco’s active participation in ARC34 confirms its attachment to multilateralism and its commitment to supporting collective efforts in favor of food security and sustainable agricultural development in Africa.
This regional event, which has drawn broad participation from ministers, experts and researchers specializing in agriculture and food security, serves as a strategic platform for knowledge exchange and the sharing of experiences and expertise on challenges facing agricultural and food systems in Africa, particularly the effects of climate change and growing pressure on natural resources.
Participants will address themes including “the transformation of agrifood systems in Africa,” “strengthening the resilience of local rural communities,” “mobilizing investment and supporting innovation,” and “establishing effective partnerships between member states, the private sector and development partners.”
