Fès: “Nostalgia” Immerses Audiences in the Great Chapters of the Kingdom’s History

Held under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the cultural event took place in the presence of the Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, the Wali of the Fès-Meknès region and Governor of the Prefecture of Fès, Khalid Ait Taleb, as well as key figures from the cultural and artistic scene. The production delivers a vibrant reinterpretation of Morocco’s historical heritage through artistic frescoes combining theater, music, and immersive staging.

Throughout the evening, spectators were transported across a series of scenes depicting defining moments in the Kingdom’s past. Among the highlights was a reconstruction of the era of Moulay Idriss II, showcasing the founding of the second bank of Fès, alongside another segment paying tribute to the reign of Sultan Moulay Hassan I, founder of the modern Moroccan army.

These performances, brought to life by the dedication of more than 300 artists and technicians, succeeded in recreating entire chapters of national memory with intensity and authenticity, within a historically symbolic setting.

Speaking to the press, Minister Mehdi Bensaid stated that this program, launched in 2016, aims to enhance historical sites and promote the Kingdom’s history through innovative approaches, allowing audiences to rediscover monuments and key milestones of Morocco’s past.

He emphasized that hosting these performances in Fès, a city of knowledge and history, provides an opportunity to combine cultural expression with the development of creative industries. He added that the initiative offers a modern and engaging way to experience history.

The minister also noted that several performances are scheduled in Fès as well as in other cities across the Kingdom, including Meknès, Rabat, and Agadir, as part of a broader effort to bring culture closer to citizens and highlight national heritage.

For his part, the director of the “Nostalgia” shows, Amine Nassour, explained that this second season, held at the historic Bab Makina site in Fès, highlights major periods in Morocco’s history, particularly those of Moulay Idriss II and Moulay Hassan I.

He pointed out that the production presents a historical fresco designed for both younger generations and visitors, bringing together artists from Fès and across the national cultural scene in a dynamic aligned with the development of creative industries.

Nassour added that the initiative seeks to revive the Kingdom’s historical memory through its various eras and emblematic figures, showcasing the depth and richness of Morocco’s heritage.
