Noureddine Bensouda Leaves the General Treasury of the Kingdom: The End of a 16-Year Era at the Helm of Public Finances
Noureddine Bensouda has officially stepped down from his duties as head of the General Treasury of the Kingdom (TGR), bringing to a close a long tenure at the head of one of the country’s most strategic financial institutions. The information was confirmed by Bensouda himself, who stated that he has no longer been exercising his responsibilities since the afternoon of Thursday, February 5, 2026.

This departure marks the end of sixteen years at the helm of the TGR, a position he had held since April 2010. An exceptionally long tenure that has deeply shaped the management of public finances and the functioning of the State treasury. While the decision surprised many observers in economic and financial circles, Noureddine Bensouda has chosen not to comment on the reasons behind his departure.
A former student of the Royal College, where he studied alongside His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Noureddine Bensouda has built a dense and highly structured administrative career. He began his professional path in 1986 at the Ministry of Economy and Finance as a research officer, before later becoming chief of staff. In 1999, he was appointed Director General of Taxes, a position he held for eleven years, during which he led major reforms in the fiscal field.
In 2010, royal confidence was renewed with his appointment as head of the General Treasury of the Kingdom, a post he would occupy until his departure in 2026. His tenure at the TGR was marked by the gradual modernization of financial management tools, the strengthening of control mechanisms, and increased transparency in budget execution.
With the departure of Noureddine Bensouda, an important chapter in Morocco’s financial administration comes to a close, leaving behind the imprint of a senior civil servant whose long and influential career was devoted to the service of the State.
