Taghazout Bay Hosts the Africa Triathlon Cup

The Africa Triathlon Cup will take place on September 21 in Taghazout Bay, under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.

Nearly one hundred athletes are expected at this major continental event, representing more than 25 nationalities, including two Moroccans, who will be competing for valuable points in both the African and world rankings.

Organized by the Royal Moroccan Triathlon Federation (FRMTRI) and Madaëf Sports & Events (MSE), this edition strengthens Morocco’s reputation as a host country for high-level triathlon competitions. It follows the successful organization of the Moulay El Hassan Triathlon World Cup last June in Saïdia Mediterrania, also initiated by FRMTRI and MSE, according to a statement from the organizers.

This new Africa Triathlon Cup edition will highlight Taghazout Bay as a fresh destination on the African triathlon circuit, further consolidating its established position in sports tourism, already centered on surfing, bodyboarding, and golf.

With its demanding and spectacular course, modern infrastructure, preserved natural setting, beaches, favorable climate, and proximity to Agadir, Taghazout Bay offers an ideal venue for hosting a continental-scale competition.

The 2025 Taghazout Bay Africa Triathlon Cup is fully in line with Morocco’s drive to promote sports events, while strengthening the image of Taghazout Bay, and more broadly the Kingdom, as a key hub for international sport and tourism.

Athletes will compete on a selective and scenic course at the heart of Taghazout Bay, across the three triathlon disciplines: 750 m swimming, 20 km cycling, and 5 km running.

Alongside the continental event, FRMTRI and MSE will also host the final of the Morocco AG National Championship on Saturday, September 20, the day before the Africa Cup. This will offer amateurs and young Moroccan triathletes a unique experience, allowing them to race an Olympic distance in both a competitive and convivial atmosphere: 1.5 km swimming, 40 km cycling, and 10 km running.

Tawenza Square, located at the heart of Taghazout Bay, will serve as the central hub of the competition, welcoming both athletes and the public, and encouraging exchanges between sports enthusiasts and visitors.

The Africa Triathlon Cup is an official competition listed on the Africa Triathlon calendar and recognized by World Triathlon as a Continental Confederation event. It brings together the best triathletes from across the continent, along with invited international athletes, through a series of stages hosted in several African countries.

As a genuine springboard for emerging elites, the competition allows athletes to earn vital points for continental and world rankings, while also contributing to the promotion and development of triathlon in Africa.

The Royal Moroccan Triathlon Federation is the authority responsible for promoting and developing triathlon in Morocco. It organizes national and international competitions and supports Moroccan athletes in their pursuit of excellence.

Madaëf Sports & Events (MSE) is a leading player in Morocco’s sports and events sector. Its mission is to create sustainable, innovative, and engaging sports and leisure experiences, placing the customer at the core of its value proposition.

This dynamic approach reflects Morocco’s broader vision for sports development, emphasizing value creation, customer experience, and inclusion through sport.

MSE’s activities encompass the management of sports and leisure assets, event organization, as well as advisory and support services in its fields of expertise. Present in eight destinations across the Kingdom, MSE manages a portfolio of 11 assets under the Madaëf Golfs, Wifaq, and Aquamania brands.
