Local Prison of Al Arjat 1 States That Detainee Mohamed Ziane Is Not on Hunger Strike and His Health Is Normal

The administration of the local prison of Al Arjat 1 stated on Wednesday that detainee “M.Z.” (Mohamed Ziane, without naming him explicitly) is not observing any hunger strike and that his health condition is normal.

In a clarification responding to allegations circulated in a statement attributed to the detainee’s family, as well as on several news websites, claiming that his health had deteriorated due to a hunger strike he is supposedly undertaking, the prison administration reaffirmed, in line with its previous clarification issued on November 24, 2025, that the detainee “is not observing any hunger strike and that his health is ordinary.”

The statement adds that the detainee never expressed any intention to begin a hunger strike, and continues to receive his meals while regularly purchasing food items from the prison shop.

The detainee himself acknowledged that he “had not submitted, and would never submit, a hunger strike notice, and that he consumes whatever he wants and is able to from the meals served to him or the food he buys from the prison shop, considering that engaging in a hunger strike would mean deliberately endangering his life, which contradicts his religious beliefs.”

The prison administration further indicated that the persistence of the detainee’s family, supported by certain parties seeking to exploit this case for personal purposes, in spreading false allegations about his current situation, is nothing more than an attempt to mislead public opinion and influence the course of the legal proceedings, without regard for the serious consequences such claims could have on his health.

The prison administration reassured public opinion that “the detainee receives all necessary medical care and fully enjoys all rights guaranteed by law, including the right to receive family visits, communicate with his lawyer, and contact his relatives,” while warning the detainee’s family and the parties attempting to benefit from his case against “continuing these irresponsible and immoral practices.”
