Casablanca: Royal Navy and US Navy Conduct Joint Port Security Exercise

The Port of Casablanca hosted a major joint exercise between the Royal Moroccan Navy and the US Navy from August 17 to 31. Announced by the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), the operation formed part of the military cooperation between Rabat and Washington and was aimed at strengthening both navies’ capabilities in securing port infrastructure.

According to the official statement, the training focused primarily on high-precision hydrographic surveys, technical studies related to infrastructure, as well as technical diving workshops for the inspection and security of maritime structures. The drills included sea sorties and practical workshops designed to sharpen the crews’ skills.

A follow-up meeting, held on the sidelines of the exercise, brought together civilian and military officials from both countries. Participants included US Consul General in Casablanca, Marisa Scott, alongside senior officers from the General Staff of the FAR and the US Navy. Discussions centered on ways to further consolidate bilateral cooperation in maritime security, with the prospect of organizing additional joint exercises in the future.

The operation took place against the backdrop of unfounded rumors in recent months regarding the use of Moroccan ports for the transit of military equipment. Through this exercise, both navies reaffirmed their strategic partnership and their shared commitment to ensuring the safety and resilience of port infrastructure.

Morocco will continue along this path of cooperation. From September 16 to October 6, the Royal Armed Forces will take part in the multinational naval exercise UNITAS, organized by the United States. More than 8,000 military personnel from 25 countries are expected to participate in this large-scale training, which will be held across several American cities.
