Riots During the AFCON Final: Two Senegalese Nationals and One Algerian Prosecuted and Placed in Custody in Rabat

The Public Prosecutor at the Rabat Court of First Instance has decided to prosecute, under provisional detention, three foreign nationals, including two Senegalese and one Algerian, implicated in the incidents that occurred during the final of the Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025.

After being brought before the Public Prosecutor on Wednesday, following their arrest by the judicial police services, the suspects were questioned in order to precisely determine the acts attributed to them. Based on the elements gathered during the investigation, the Public Prosecutor ordered their placement in custody and set the date for the first hearing of their trial.

These arrests follow acts of violence and vandalism committed at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat, at the end of the match between Morocco and Senegal last Sunday. In total, 19 people were arrested, including the two Senegalese supporters and the Algerian national concerned by this procedure.

Moreover, the National Observatory for the Fight Against Hooliganism and Racism in Stadiums has taken up the case and expressed its intention to join the proceedings as a civil party. A lawyer has already been appointed for this purpose, and the necessary steps are expected to be taken as of the first hearing.

According to available information, the arrests were carried out as part of an investigation conducted by the judicial police under the supervision of the competent Public Prosecutor, notably through the analysis of stadium surveillance footage.

The suspects are expected to be prosecuted on several charges, including disturbance of public order, acts of vandalism, assault on public officials, incitement to riot, and participation in collective violence.
