Prosecution Denounces Violence, Vandalism & Arson as Criminal Acts Against Freedom of Speech, Stresses Heavy Prison Sentences
Rabat - The judicial official from the Public Prosecution’s Office, Ahmed Ouali Alami, stressed that acts of violence, vandalism and arson are criminal acts against freedom of speech, stressing that they are punishable by heavy prison sentences under the criminal law.
The Head of the Public Prosecution’s Criminal Policy and Execution Oversight Pole told MAP agency that all these acts targeting public and private property and causing physical harm to people in the aftermath of unauthorized demonstrations “have no relation whatsoever to any form of freedom of speech.”
Alami pointed out that these criminal acts are “punishable under the criminal law by heavy prison sentences ranging from 10 to 20 years, and up to 30 years in some cases or even life sentence under aggravated circumstances.”
The official stressed that these events primarily jeopardize the safety and security of citizens and their property, emphasizing that the law must be applied strictly in this regard to safeguard their safety and tranquility.
