Organized by the Consulate General of the Kingdom of Morocco in Barcelona, in collaboration with the local Moroccan associative network, the gathering brought together a wide range of personalities from the worlds of sport, media, and civil society, who came to share a moment of national unity.
Speaking on the occasion, the Consul General of the Kingdom in Barcelona, Ms. Nezha Attahar, stated that the remarkable performances of Moroccan football and the sustained development of sports infrastructure reflect the implementation of a clear and ambitious Royal Vision that places youth and sport at the heart of the Kingdom’s development project, as drivers of progress and inclusion.
Ms. Attahar also highlighted the symbolic significance of this edition of the AFCON, which, in her view, represents far more than a sporting competition, as it stands as a celebration of African fraternity and Morocco’s continental influence.
The diplomat stressed that Morocco’s leadership in organization and sporting excellence reflects the constant commitment of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to making sport a strategic lever for human development and social inclusion.
The event was marked by the presence of Moroccan football icon and former national team coach Badou Zaki, who praised the high technical level of the national side as well as the remarkable quality of Morocco’s organization of this edition of the Africa Cup of Nations.
While emphasizing the increased competitiveness of this AFCON, he said he was convinced that the Lions of the Atlas have the potential, collective cohesion, and tactical maturity needed to approach the most demanding matches with calm against top level opponents.
The highlight of the evening was the warm tribute paid to Badou Zaki. His exceptional career, both in national colors and at club level, was honored by the audience, recalling that he remains one of the greatest defensive pillars in the history of African football and a model of perseverance for rising generations.
In an atmosphere filled with patriotic fervor, driven by popular chants and national colors, members of the Moroccan community expressed their pride in the performances of national sport and in the sustained development dynamic that the Kingdom is experiencing.
