Assassination of Charlie Kirk: U.S. Authorities Announce Arrest of Suspected Killer

A 22-year-old man has been arrested in southern Utah, less than two days after the assassination of the young standard-bearer of Trumpist youth.

“We got him.” Utah’s governor confirmed on Friday the arrest of the suspected murderer of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk, an announcement that had been made hours earlier by Donald Trump himself. “I believe, with a high degree of certainty, that we have him in custody,” the U.S. President told Fox News. “Everyone did a great job, we worked with the police, with the governor, he’s in custody.”

“Hey fascist, catch this”

The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Taylor Robinson, was not enrolled at the university where Charlie Kirk was shot in the neck during a public debate. He was arrested Thursday evening in southern Utah, after a relative reportedly contacted police and helped locate him.

According to information shared by the governor, the theory of a political assassination is becoming clearer: Robinson had recently become increasingly radicalized. At a recent dinner, he reportedly spoke of the upcoming visit of Charlie Kirk to Utah Valley University, calling him “a man full of hate.” Police also found messages scrawled on ammunition belonging to the suspect, including “Hey fascist, catch this” and “Bella ciao,” a reference to the Italian anti-fascist movement.

Arrested 33 hours after Charlie Kirk’s death

FBI Director Kash Patel expressed pride in the investigation, stressing that the suspect was arrested just 33 hours after the crime. The rapid outcome helped the Bureau save face, two days after it had wrongly announced the arrest of another alleged killer who was later released.

The case had to move swiftly: the assassination has sparked widespread emotion and ignited fierce debate about political violence, closely followed by the White House. Utah Governor Spencer Cox described Charlie Kirk’s death as a turning point in U.S. history.

He even drew a parallel with the political assassinations of the 1960s, such as John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King. Whether he is right remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: Charlie Kirk’s assassination has triggered major political shockwaves across the United States.
