Patrice Motsepe Dismisses Rumors, Confirms AFCON 2027 to Be Held as Scheduled in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda
CAF President Patrice Motsepe has firmly denied circulating rumors suggesting potential changes to the organization or scheduling of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, reaffirming that the tournament will take place as planned in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

Speaking amid growing speculation around the future of the competition, Motsepe stressed that preparations for AFCON 2027 are moving forward in line with the established roadmap. He underlined that the tripartite hosting arrangement remains intact and that there has been no official discussion within the Confederation of African Football regarding postponement or relocation.
The CAF president emphasized that Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda continue to work closely with the continental body to meet organizational and infrastructural requirements, noting that joint hosting reflects CAF’s broader vision of regional cooperation and shared development through football.
Motsepe also called for caution regarding unverified information, urging stakeholders and the public to rely on official CAF communications. According to him, maintaining clarity and stability around major competitions is essential for the credibility of African football and for ensuring that host nations can prepare under optimal conditions.
AFCON 2027 will be the first edition of the tournament to be jointly hosted by three East African countries, marking a symbolic milestone for the region and for CAF’s strategy of expanding the tournament’s geographic footprint while strengthening institutional coordination across member associations.
