Morocco–United States: Youssef Amrani Explores Expanded and Diversified Partnership in Mississippi

Moroccan Ambassador to the United States, Youssef Amrani, focused this week on broadening and diversifying the Moroccan-American partnership during a series of meetings and working sessions with officials and economic stakeholders in the State of Mississippi.

In Jackson and Starkville, Ambassador Amrani met with Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves and the Speaker of the State House of Representatives, Jason White, in the presence of several political, economic, and academic leaders.

The visit comes in the context of the 250th anniversary of the historic friendship and alliance between Rabat and Washington.

During the discussions, Ambassador Amrani recalled the political foundations of the Moroccan-American partnership, strengthened by recent developments, including the U.S. recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara. He noted that this momentum now encourages the expansion of cooperation into emerging economic and industrial sectors.

In this regard, the talks highlighted opportunities related to critical minerals, identified as a promising area of collaboration amid international challenges involving the security of supply chains, economic growth, and job creation.

The meetings also underscored the achievements of cooperation between Morocco and Mississippi in fields such as education, energy, and agribusiness, as well as the potential to consolidate these successes through projects involving local authorities and business communities.

Governor Reeves expressed his state’s interest in further developing exchanges with Morocco, highlighting Mississippi’s logistical advantages as a corridor facilitating river, rail, and road flows at the regional level.

On the academic front, the visit included a review of university cooperation, with prospects for updating the partnership agreement linking the International University of Rabat (UIR) and Mississippi State University (MSU). The Speaker of the Mississippi House of Representatives noted that approximately 300 Moroccan students have been enrolled at the institution since 2015, illustrating the vibrant human and scientific exchanges between the two sides.

The visit concluded with Ambassador Amrani, accompanied by a delegation from UIR, attending a session of the Mississippi State Senate, demonstrating the shared commitment to strengthening the Morocco–United States partnership through a more diversified and operational approach, also supported by the U.S. federal states.

The trip further reinforced institutional and sectoral bridges by bringing together public, academic, and economic actors around expanded cooperation prospects, confirming that the Moroccan-American partnership continues to thrive on continuous dialogue and concrete collaboration at all levels.
