Ecuadorian FM Describes Morocco as ‘Strategic Partner,’ ‘Gateway’ to Africa
Rabat - The Kingdom of Morocco is a strategic partner and a gateway for Ecuador to the African continent, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility of the Republic of Ecuador Gabriela Sommerfeld said on Friday in Rabat.


Speaking following talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita, Sommerfeld highlighted Morocco’s central role in promoting Atlantic value chains, advocating, in this regard, for the construction of an economic corridor between the African and South American continents capable of generating tangible benefits for the productive sectors of both countries.
“Morocco is a key partner in advancing these objectives of our country’s economic strategy, namely trade liberalization, investment attraction, and strengthening competitiveness,” she emphasized, noting that Ecuador seeks to bolster its presence in the Moroccan market.
Sommerfeld thus highlighted three main pillars of focus: strengthening the legal framework for investment, developing trade based on complementary between the two economies, and cooperation in logistics and infrastructure, while expressing her country’s ambition to benefit from Morocco’s expertise in port management and trade facilitation.
The Ecuadorian official also discussed prospects for cooperation between the two countries in future-oriented sectors, notably renewable energy, the energy transition, and decarbonization, which are viewed as concrete economic opportunities for diversifying national economies.
The head of Ecuadorian diplomacy further noted that her meeting with Bourita reflects strong ties between the two countries, grounded in shared principles and values, as well as a common willingness, as partners and allies, to elevate their cooperation higher.
