AFCON 2025: The Atlas Lions Start Strong Against Comoros (2-0)

Morocco’s national football team made a perfect start to their Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a convincing 2-0 victory over Comoros on Sunday evening at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, in the opening match of AFCON Morocco 2025.

Backed by a large and enthusiastic home crowd, the Atlas Lions gradually imposed their control against a disciplined and determined Comorian side. After a competitive but goalless first half, Morocco found the breakthrough shortly after the restart, with Brahim Diaz opening the scoring in the 55th minute, finishing off a well-worked collective move.

Moroccan dominance was confirmed in the 74th minute with a moment of pure class from Ayoub El Kaabi. The Atlas Lions striker doubled the lead with a spectacular acrobatic overhead kick, sending the stands into raptures and effectively sealing the outcome of the match.

Thanks to this opening victory, Morocco collect their first three points and move provisionally to the top of Group A, getting their continental campaign off to an ideal start in front of their home supporters.

The first round of Group A continues on Monday with the clash between Mali and Zambia at the Mohammed V Sports Complex in Casablanca, a match that will complete the picture in this competitive group.

With this controlled and promising win, the Atlas Lions immediately confirm their status as favourites and clearly state their ambitions in this AFCON 2025, played on home soil.
