Niamey: HACA President Latifa Akharbach received by Niger’s Prime Minister

The President of the High Authority for Audiovisual Communication (HACA), Latifa Akharbach, was received in audience in Niamey by the President of the Consultative Council for Refoundation (the Transition Parliament), Mamoudou Djingarey, and by the Prime Minister of Niger, Ali Mahamane Lamine Zein.

These meetings granted to the Moroccan delegation, as part of a working visit carried out in Niamey on March 25 and 26, provided an opportunity to reaffirm the consistent and trusting nature of the cooperative relations between Morocco and Niger, and to exchange views on the challenges facing both countries in strengthening their media regulation models in support of Africa’s informational sovereignty.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister of Niger recalled the excellence of the bilateral relations linking the two brotherly countries. While praising the pan-African leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, he also welcomed the active and ongoing solidarity between Morocco and Niger.

During her meeting with the President of the Consultative Council for Refoundation, Mamoudou Djingarey, the HACA President outlined opportunities for bilateral Morocco–Niger cooperation in the field of media regulation, and emphasized the need to promote, within a pan-African framework, the role of regulators in fostering social cohesion, combating disinformation, and safeguarding the integrity of information as a common good.

Carried out at the invitation of Ibrahim Manzo Diallo, President of Niger’s National Observatory of Communication (ONC), this working visit by Ms. Akharbach enabled consultations on several issues of common interest, notably the adaptation of regulatory mandates and tools to the transformations of the traditional and digital media environment, the role of public audiovisual service in preserving the media sovereignty of African states, as well as the action of regulators in combating disinformation.

The visit was also marked by the signing, by Ms. Akharbach and Mr. Manzo Diallo, of an agreement relating to the installation, within the ONC monitoring center, of the HMS+ (HACA Media Solutions) technological solution, developed by HACA engineers and internationally recognized as an effective tool for monitoring and tracking audiovisual programs.

During this visit, the HACA President was accompanied by Nadir Tahir, Director of the Program Monitoring Department, and Talal Salahdine, Manager of African and International Affairs.
