The US Embassy and General Dagvin R. M. Anderson Highlight Morocco’s Central Role in the African Lion Exercise
In a post published on Thursday, February 5, 2026, on its Facebook page, the United States Embassy in Morocco reaffirmed the depth and strength of the strategic partnership between Rabat and Washington. Quoting General Dagvin R. M. Anderson, Commander of US AFRICOM, the publication emphasized Morocco’s importance in hosting the largest US military exercise on the African continent, African Lion.

Scheduled for May, this large-scale international exercise will once again take place on Moroccan soil, confirming the trust placed in the Kingdom and its key role in security cooperation and regional stability. General Anderson stressed that the choice of Morocco carries strong symbolic significance, particularly as the United States prepares to celebrate the 250th anniversary of its independence.
The publication also recalls a major historical fact: Morocco was the first country in the world to recognize the United States, a founding gesture that continues to sustain an exceptional bilateral relationship based on trust, continuity, and mutual respect.
Through African Lion, Morocco reaffirms its status as a major strategic partner of the United States in Africa, while strengthening its role as a regional platform for military cooperation, training, and interoperability among allied forces. This stands as further recognition of the position the Kingdom now occupies on the international security stage.
