Gunfire and stone-throwing in Algeria targeting IShowSpeed: A serious security failure in a climate of hatred, violence and propaganda

The visit of American streamer IShowSpeed on the occasion of the Super Cup final turned into a nightmare, exposing serious security failures and a worrying level of hostility surrounding a major sporting event.

Upon his arrival near the stadium, IShowSpeed and his team were targeted by stone-throwing from individuals who refused to be filmed. The situation quickly escalated, forcing organisers to evacuate the streamer urgently in order to guarantee his safety.

Even more alarming, the content creator stated that he heard gunfire while still travelling in his convoy, before even reaching the stadium. A fact of extreme seriousness that raises questions about the authorities’ ability to secure international guests.

These incidents deal a severe blow to the image of sport, which is meant to be a space of openness, celebration and global outreach. Above all, they highlight the urgent need to combat violent behaviour and to ensure strict supervision during major sporting events.

Modern football cannot afford such excesses. Clear explanations and accountability are now essential to prevent such scenes from happening again.
