Morocco’s Top Prosecutor Holds Talks with French Justice Minister

Rabat - The King’s Prosecutor General at the Court of Cassation and President of the Public Prosecutor's Office, Hicham Balaoui, held, on Monday in Rabat, a meeting with French Minister of Justice, Gérald Darmanin, who is on a visit to the Kingdom, focused on bolstering judicial cooperation and the exchange of expertise.

The meeting provided an opportunity for both sides to explore the means of developing international cooperation mechanisms in fields of mutual interest, mainly in the fight against cross-border and organized crime.

Talks also served as an opportunity for reviewing the new legislation introduced by the new Code of Criminal Procedure, particularly in the fields of special investigation techniques and international cooperation in criminal matters.

The two officials emphasized the importance of sharing experiences and expertise in areas falling within the remit of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, through the exchange of information and visits, as well as the holding of conferences and training sessions aimed at strengthening the capacities of magistrates of the Public Prosecutor’s Office in the field of criminal justice.

They also welcomed the level of cooperation between the two countries, emphasizing the importance of further coordination and joint action in order to serve mutual interests and contribute to the fight against crime in all forms.

The meeting showcases the will of the Presidency of the Public Prosecutor’s Office to bolster its international partnerships, as part of its openness and cooperation policy.
