Human Rights – Geneva: NGO “Africa Culture International” Releases Video Showing Sahrawis Trying to Flee the Tindouf Camps to Return to Morocco

On the sidelines of the 60th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, the NGO Africa Culture International organized, this weekend at the Palais des Nations, a parallel conference dedicated to serious human rights violations in conflict zones in Africa, with a particular focus on the dramatic situation in the Tindouf camps, located on Algerian territory.

Moderated by Dr. Dianko Lamine, president of the organization, the meeting brought together several experts and defenders of fundamental rights. Among them, Dr. Limam Boussif, president of the Regional Youth Leadership Organization, delivered an in-depth analysis of the causes of armed conflicts, their impact on civilian populations, and possible pathways toward peace.

In his address, Dr. Boussif denounced the systematic practices of human rights violations in war zones, citing extrajudicial executions, enforced disappearances, the recruitment of child soldiers, as well as sexual violence and ideological indoctrination imposed in the Tindouf camps by the Polisario, with the direct support of the Algerian regime.

A highlight of the session was the screening of a harrowing video showing Sahrawis attempting to escape the camps to return to Morocco, following the bloody repression by the Algerian army on April 9, 2025, against Sahrawi gold miners. In the recording, civilians can be heard pleading with Algerian soldiers not to shoot, while reaffirming their inalienable right to rejoin their homeland, Morocco.

Participants unanimously called on the international community, the United Nations, and NGOs to take firm action to end these violations, protect refugees, and sanction those responsible. They also commended the tangible efforts of the Kingdom of Morocco, which for years has been working toward reintegration, dignity, and lasting peace in the region, establishing the Kingdom as an African model of stability and development.
