Moroccan Sahara: The cities of Dakhla and Nice commit to a twinning dynamic
The President of the Dakhla City Council, Erragheb Hormatollah, and the Mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, on Saturday signed a letter of intent with a view to twinning the two cities, consecrating their shared ambition to further deepen their partnership.

The signing of this document, which took place notably in the presence of the Consul General of Morocco in Marseille, Mohamed El Hamouli, paves the way for the promotion of priority areas of cooperation such as tourism, green energy and the exchange of expertise.
On this occasion, Mr Estrosi said he was “very happy” to work towards strengthening the partnership between Nice and Dakhla, “in continuation of the virtuous bilateral dynamic that now needs to be revitalized and consolidated.”
“It is extremely important today for our two cities to work together to address common challenges, including those related to development and climate change,” he maintained.
For his part, Mr Hormatollah stressed that the twinning between Dakhla and Nice fits within the renewed dynamic of Moroccan-French cooperation, particularly since the visit carried out by French President Emmanuel Macron to Morocco in October 2024.
This partnership will make it possible to broaden the scope of cooperation between the two cities in promising sectors such as the energy transition, investment promotion and port activities, in line with the objectives of the development model for the southern provinces of the Kingdom.
The emphasis will also be placed on sharing expertise and experiences between two tourist attraction hubs, at a time when Dakhla is moving towards developing its offer as a destination in its own right.
The ceremony was attended by the French Ambassador for Poles and Oceans, Olivier Poivre d’Arvor, elected officials from the city of Nice and several members of the Moroccan community established in France.
