Spanish Transport Minister highlights the strategic scope of the partnership with Morocco

Spanish Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility Oscar Puente said on Wednesday that the partnership between Spain and Morocco now carries major strategic significance, noting that bilateral relations are experiencing “their best moment in decades”.

Speaking at the closing session of the Spain–Morocco economic meeting held at the headquarters of the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations (CEOE), Mr. Puente highlighted the positive momentum shaping cooperation between the two countries, especially since the adoption of the bilateral roadmap in 2022 and the High-Level Meeting held in Rabat in 2023.

The minister noted that the meeting taking place on Thursday in Madrid reflects the continuity of political dialogue between Rabat and Madrid, stressing the need for both neighboring countries to continue working together in a spirit of mutual respect and complementarity.

Regarding transport and infrastructure, Mr. Puente underlined the growing involvement of Spanish companies in major structural projects underway in Morocco, citing in particular the contribution of Spanish engineering firms to the modernization and expansion works at Casablanca Airport.

He welcomed Morocco’s “ambitious investment plan” to strengthen its infrastructure network and consolidate its position as a regional hub, noting that this momentum benefits both the country’s economic fabric and its citizens.

Mr. Puente also emphasized the quality of the Moroccan-Spanish economic partnership, built on equal treatment and mutual recognition, while highlighting the remarkable progress Morocco has achieved over recent decades.

“The strategic partnership between Rabat and Madrid represents a key lever not only for both countries, but also for the European and African continents,” he said, adding that joint action by the two countries “can help shape a new Euro-African dynamic”.

This business forum, held on the eve of the 13th High-Level Meeting between the two countries, brings together Moroccan and Spanish government officials as well as leading business executives from both sides, reflecting a shared commitment to further strengthening bilateral economic cooperation.
