International Trade: Morocco Emerges as One of the Most Dynamic Drivers in the World
Morocco continues its rapid rise on the international economic stage. According to the latest data published by the World Trade Organization, the Kingdom now ranks among the world’s best performing economies, securing sixth place globally for merchandise import growth in 2025, with a remarkable increase of 16 percent by the end of November. This performance is particularly notable given the global context of slowing trade flows.

A Strong Signal of Economic Vitality
Far from being a simple statistical indicator, this surge reflects the strength of investment and the intensification of national industrial activity. It also highlights the structural transformation of the Moroccan economy, which has become a key production and logistics platform linking Africa, Europe, and the Atlantic region.
Only five economies worldwide recorded stronger import growth, while Morocco clearly outperformed major trading powers such as the European Union, the United States, and Brazil, which posted growth rates of around 6 percent. Some leading economies even experienced contraction, including China.
Exports Also Accelerating
The momentum is not limited to imports. Between January and November 2025, Moroccan exports increased by 8 percent, a pace exceeding that of several major industrial economies such as the United States, Japan, Spain, and the European Union. This simultaneous rise in both imports and exports confirms Morocco’s growing role as a global trade hub.
Outperforming the African Average
At the continental level, Africa already displays one of the highest trade expansion rates worldwide. However, Morocco has gone even further, surpassing regional averages in both imports and exports. The country is positioning itself as one of the economic engines of the continent, capable of capitalizing on the ongoing transformation of international trade.
This rapid growth is accompanied by infrastructure challenges, particularly congestion at the port of Casablanca, which handles nearly 100,000 containers per month and faces increased logistical pressure. For many analysts, however, such strains are the direct consequence of sustained commercial expansion and reflect the scale of the country’s trade success.
A Strategic Position in the Economy of the Future
The increase in global trade has been partly driven by technology sectors linked to artificial intelligence, where exchanges have grown by around 20 percent year on year. In this context, Morocco’s performance signals its gradual integration into some of the most advanced global value chains.
In short, Morocco is no longer simply keeping pace with global trade dynamics. It is emerging as a key player that contributes to shaping them, consolidating its position as one of the most dynamic economies on the international stage.
