National Monitoring Commission for Flood Management and Follow-up Praises the High Royal Instructions for the Immediate Intervention of the Royal Armed Forces in Support of Affected Populations

Meeting this Friday at the headquarters of the Ministry of the Interior, the National Monitoring Commission for Flood Management and Follow-up highly praised the High Royal Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, ordering the immediate intervention of the Royal Armed Forces and the deployment of significant human and logistical resources to support and assist populations in the affected areas. This decision reflects the constant attention shown by the Sovereign to the protection of citizens, the preservation of their safety, and the safeguarding of their property in the face of exceptional climatic conditions.

The meeting, attended by ministers and officials from the various government departments and institutions that are members of the commission, focused on reviewing the current situation in Ksar El Kebir, monitoring developments on the ground, assessing the recorded damage, coordinating interventions, and adopting the necessary measures to protect the populations and secure their property.

This meeting is part of the close monitoring ensured by public authorities in response to climatic disturbances affecting certain regions of the Kingdom, particularly the city of Ksar El Kebir, which has been hit by exceptional flooding caused by heavy rainfall, rising water levels in wadis, and constraints related to dam management after several facilities reached their maximum capacity due to significant water inflows.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to present measures aimed at strengthening the momentum of ongoing interventions, notably through enhanced monitoring and follow-up mechanisms on the ground, increased mobilization of human and logistical resources, the provision of necessary equipment, and strengthened coordination among all stakeholders, in order to ensure rapid and effective responses to this delicate climatic situation.

Participants also reviewed the actions undertaken to contain the rising water levels of the Loukkos and Sebou wadis, as well as associated watercourses, with the aim of limiting the expansion of flooded areas and reducing potential impacts on populations, property, and infrastructure, through continuous coordination among the various concerned services.

The commission further stressed the need to maintain constant monitoring of the evolving situation, preserve the highest level of mobilization, and ensure immediate intervention capacity whenever necessary, until a return to normal weather conditions.

During this meeting, participants also renewed their commitment to a general mobilization of the various public services to support affected populations and provide them with the necessary assistance to mitigate the effects of these weather conditions and preserve collective safety.

Finally, while commending the sense of responsibility and the positive commitment of the various actors mobilized to limit the extent of the damage and reduce recorded losses, the commission called on all citizens, particularly residents of the affected areas, to exercise the utmost vigilance, strictly comply with the instructions of the competent authorities, and avoid any risk-taking, in order to protect human lives and property.
