CAF Champions League: High-Risk Clashes for AS FAR and Berkane

The draw for the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League, conducted Tuesday at the headquarters of the Egyptian Football Association, has handed particularly demanding fixtures to the Kingdom’s representatives.

The Rabat-based club, AS FAR, will face the formidable Pyramids FC, the reigning champions and one of the most competitive squads on the continent. Meanwhile, RS Berkane will take on the solid Al Hilal side, which topped its group ahead of South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns.

The tournament bracket suggests a potentially explosive scenario: should both Moroccan clubs overcome the quarter-final hurdle, they could meet each other in the semi-finals, with the return leg scheduled in Berkane. Such a prospect would already guarantee the presence of a national representative in the final.

Berkane finished second in their group with 10 points, behind Pyramids, after recording three victories, one draw and two defeats. AS FAR also secured second place in their group with 9 points, trailing Egypt’s Al Ahly, following a campaign marked by two wins, three draws and just one loss.

Caught between strong ambitions and formidable opponents, the two Moroccan sides are now preparing to contest quarter-finals that promise to be intense, with their sights firmly set on a historic qualification for the continental last four.
