Iranian Attacks: Gulf Cooperation Council states say they will take all necessary measures to defend their security and stability
Riyadh – Member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) have affirmed that they will take all necessary measures to protect their security and stability in response to Iranian attacks.

In a statement issued following the 50th extraordinary meeting of the GCC Ministerial Council, held by videoconference, the member states said that “in the face of this unjustified aggression against the countries of the Council, all necessary measures will be taken to defend their security and stability and to protect their territories, their citizens and residents, including the option of responding to this aggression.”
The Ministerial Council expressed its rejection and condemnation in the strongest terms of these attacks carried out by Iran, describing them as criminal acts targeting GCC member states as well as the Jordan. It stressed that these actions constitute a serious violation of the sovereignty of these countries, the principles of good neighborliness, and a clear breach of international law and the Charter of the United Nations, regardless of the justifications presented.
The statement also noted that the targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure represents a serious violation of international humanitarian law.
The Council’s member states further reaffirmed their full solidarity and unity in the face of these attacks, stressing that the security of the Gulf states is indivisible. Any attack targeting one member is considered a direct attack against the entire Council, in accordance with the GCC’s founding charter and its joint defense agreement.
The member states also recalled that they reserve the legal right to respond, in accordance with Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, which guarantees the right of states to individual or collective self defense in the event of aggression.
The Council called for an immediate halt to the attacks in order to restore security, peace and stability in the region. It also emphasized the importance of safeguarding the security of air and maritime spaces, shipping routes and supply chains, as well as maintaining the stability of global energy markets.
Finally, the Gulf states urged the international community to firmly condemn these attacks and called on the United Nations Security Council to assume its responsibilities by adopting an immediate and firm position to prevent the recurrence of such violations, which endanger civilian lives and threaten regional and international peace.
