The ISJC Pays Tribute to Mustapha Alaoui, the Dean of Moroccan Journalists, the Voice That Marked the Kingdom’s Historic Events
On the occasion of the national celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the Glorious Green March and the 70th anniversary of Independence Day, the Higher Institute of Journalism and Communication (ISJC) is organizing a tribute ceremony this Friday, December 5, dedicated to one of the giants of the national audiovisual sector: the dean of Moroccan journalists, Mustapha Alaoui.
A Legendary Voice, Witness to the Kingdom’s History
For several decades, Mustapha Alaoui embodied the rigor, sobriety, and professionalism that shaped the Moroccan school of journalism. His voice, both composed and deeply human, remains etched in the memory of millions of Moroccans. It spanned the 70s, 80s, and 90s, accompanying the great moments of the Kingdom’s contemporary history, from the official activities of the late His Majesty Hassan II to the first years of the reign of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
A Tribute to an Exceptional Career
This ceremony organized by the ISJC carries a strong symbolism: celebrating a man whose personal and professional journey profoundly influenced the national media landscape. Mustapha Alaoui, through his consistency, dignity, and commitment to the profession, embodies a generation of journalists forged by discipline, commitment, and a deep sense of national duty.
His historic role, his manner of embodying Moroccan television, and the emotional power of his voice during major events—notably the announcement of the passing of the late HM Hassan II or the enthronement of HM King Mohammed VI in 1999—have shaped the collective imagination and left a lasting mark on the country’s memory.
A Recognition That Transcends Generations
By paying tribute to this tutelary figure, the ISJC underscores the central place of the press in the construction of national memory. Mustapha Alaoui, through his exemplary career, has always upheld the values of loyalty, integrity, and love for the homeland:
“I went through years of hard work, driven by my love for Morocco, my fidelity to the Throne, and my commitment to the citizens,” he confided during a previous tribute.
A Living Legacy for New Generations
This tribute is all the more touching as it comes shortly after the painful loss of his wife, his lifelong companion. Despite this ordeal, Mustapha Alaoui continued to honor his professional commitments, showing admirable resilience that commands respect.
Through this ceremony, the ISJC intends to pass on Mustapha Alaoui’s legacy to future Moroccan journalists: a committed, responsible, patriotic, and deeply human journalism. The Institute thus pays homage not only to a man, but to a voice, a school, a symbol, who helped write some of the most beautiful pages of Morocco’s media history.
