Arab Cup 2025: The Atlas Lions determined to seize every key moment to reach the final four
A few hours before the quarter-final that will bring together, this Thursday at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, the Moroccan national A team and its Syrian counterpart, national coach Tarik Sektioui stresses the importance of “fully exploiting the key moments” in order to secure a place in the final four of the competition.
Sektioui acknowledges that the match “will be difficult”, while noting that the absences recorded within the squad do not diminish the ambitions of the Moroccan group. “Despite the unavailability of certain key players, we have the potential and the mindset needed to aim for qualification”, he said.
Fielding the best formation to unsettle Syria
The coach states that the technical staff is working to “field the best possible team” in order to meet the tactical demands of the match. A thorough analysis of the Syrian game has made it possible to identify “weak points to exploit”, which could help the Atlas Lions in this knockout duel.
Regarding preparations, Sektioui praises “a healthy atmosphere marked by solidarity, professionalism and a sense of responsibility”, recalling that the team has approached the entire competition under the same conditions of rigor and discipline.
Growing motivation among the players
The national team’s goalkeeper, Salaheddine Chihab, confirms that the group approaches this quarter-final with confidence and determination. “Preparations are going well against a solid Syrian team. The desire to reach the semi-finals grows day by day”, he stated.
Syria relying on defense and pressure
For his part, Syrian coach José Lana recognizes the quality of the Moroccan opponent, describing the Atlas Lions as an “excellent team with a structured style of play and high ambitions”. He indicated that Syria will rely on “tight defense and constant pressure” to slow down Morocco’s build-up play.
“This match also represents an opportunity to further develop the Syrian style of play”, he added.
A convincing group stage for Morocco
Top of their group with 7 points, Morocco finished ahead of Saudi Arabia with 6 points, Oman with 4 points and Comoros with 0 points, confirming a steady rise in performance throughout the first round. It is a positive dynamic that the Atlas Lions intend to maintain as they aim for the semi-finals of this 2025 edition.
