Irish Delegation Explores Development Momentum in Dakhla-Oued Eddahab Region

A delegation from the Association of Former Irish Parliamentarians visited Dakhla on Wednesday to learn about the region’s development momentum and the major structuring projects underway across Dakhla-Oued Eddahab.

Led by Mary Flaherty, former Minister for Social Protection, the visit provided an opportunity to discover the region’s many assets and its modern infrastructure in various sectors.

During the visit, the delegation met with Ali Khalil, Wali of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region and Governor of Oued Eddahab province, who highlighted the region’s strategic position as a gateway linking Morocco to its African depth. He also underscored the numerous development projects launched under the visionary leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.

The delegation members expressed their admiration for the progress achieved in the region, particularly in infrastructure, education, and healthcare, during a meeting also attended by Ahmed Ktir, Acting Director of the Regional Investment Center of Dakhla-Oued Eddahab.

Speaking to the press, Mr. Ktir explained that the Irish delegation had been briefed on several development programs, especially in agriculture, tourism, the blue economy, and fisheries, as well as on the promising investment opportunities available in the region.

The delegation also held talks at the Regional Council headquarters with El Khattat Yanja, President of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region, which shed further light on the region’s ongoing development dynamic.

Alongside Ms. Flaherty, the Irish delegation included Pat Breen, former Minister of Trade and Economic Affairs; James Bannon, former Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee; Thomas Hayes, former Senator; Martin Mansergh, former Minister of State for Agriculture; Brendan Howlin, former Senator, former Minister of State for Arts, Sport and Tourism, and former advisor to the Prime Minister; as well as Timothy Conway, former Minister for Public Expenditure and former Senator.
