Algeria’s Vote at the UN: A Double Discourse Exposing the Hypocrisy of Algiers’ Military Regime
Once again, Algeria’s military regime has revealed its true nature: a diplomacy built on contradictions, opportunism, and deceit. At the latest session of the United Nations General Assembly, Algiers voted in favor of the New York Declaration, which advocates for a peaceful settlement of the Palestinian question through the two-state solution, with Israel and Palestine living side by side.

A vote that unmasks the hypocrisy of a regime that, for decades, has inundated its citizens and the Arab public with fiery rhetoric against what it calls “the Zionist entity.” From every podium, the Algerian military regime claims to be the sole authentic defender of the Palestinian cause, even going so far as to declare that it will stand with Palestine “whether right or wrong.” Yet behind this hollow rhetoric, the reality is very different: by its vote, Algiers effectively endorses recognition of the State of Israel.
This duplicity perfectly illustrates the camouflage diplomacy practiced by the Algerian regime: demagogic language meant to galvanize the Arab street and conceal its own political, economic, and social failures. In truth, Algeria’s leadership acts neither out of conviction nor out of principle, but purely out of diplomatic calculation, swaying with its immediate interests.
Algeria thus proves itself to be neither a model of consistency nor a reliable player on the international stage. Its supposed loyalty to the Palestinian cause is nothing more than a propaganda tool, designed to manipulate public opinion and divert attention from the deep crisis consuming the country.
This vote is a resounding admission: behind the fiery slogans, the Algerian military regime practices a diplomacy of lies, hypocrisy, and opacity.
