Namibia, this beggar-state at Algeria’s beck and call, who daring to defy Morocco’s Sovereignty!

Namibia, an economically suffocated state struggling to ensure the daily survival of its people, has recently dared to meddle in the Moroccan Sahara issue, appointing itself as the spokesperson for a cause that has nothing to do with it.

This country, with no real influence on the international stage, had the audacity to criticize France’s sovereign decision to officially recognize Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara—a significant diplomatic gesture celebrated globally. In a pitiful and misguided attempt to make its voice heard, Namibia has allowed itself to be manipulated by Algeria, a decaying despotic regime led by “Generals” who have lost all decency.

While this country pretends to lecture great powers, the reality reveals a Namibia that is little more than a beggar, pleading with Japan for a meager sum of $500,000 during the TICAD Summit. What was meant to be a conference on Africa’s development became Namibia’s opportunity to hold out its hand, seeking international charity—an act as humiliating as it is indicative of its inability to stay afloat.

Japan, with cold diplomacy, announced this “generosity” in a joint statement—a move that, rather than uplifting Namibia, only plunged it deeper into disgrace. How can a country, dependent on the charity of others for survival, seriously claim to be master of its own political decisions or attempt to lecture others on matters of territorial sovereignty?

Namibia, whose diplomatic influence is as negligible as its economy, acts like a subservient vassal, obedient to Algeria’s directives, a state itself in disarray, ruled by a desperate and corrupt military elite. In truth, Namibia’s decisions are nothing more than the result of Algerian pressure, using underhanded tactics that continue to stir discord in North Africa and beyond. It is laughable that a state as fragile and dependent as Namibia imagines it can play a role in matters as complex as the Moroccan Sahara, where international law and diplomacy have already settled in favor of the Kingdom of Morocco.

By allowing itself to be so blatantly manipulated by Algeria, Namibia once again demonstrates its lack of discernment and inability to grasp the real political stakes affecting Africa. Its stance on the Moroccan Sahara is nothing more than a smokescreen, intended to hide its own weakness and lack of true sovereignty.

Namibia should first focus on standing on its own feet, on providing for its people without begging for alms from abroad, before involving itself in matters of sovereignty it clearly does not understand. Its pathetic attempt to align itself with Algeria will only lead to further shame and international marginalization.
