A Ramadan Iftar in Miami Celebrating Coexistence and Interfaith Dialogue

Miami - The Consulate General of Morocco in Miami hosted on Tuesday a Ramadan Iftar in the spirit of coexistence and interfaith dialogue, attended by several local elected officials, diplomats, representatives from academic and business institutions, community leaders, and members of the Moroccan community living in Florida and the south-eastern United States.

The event illustrated the Kingdom’s role in serving as a model for interfaith and intercultural dialogue, both on the international stage and within the diaspora.

Speaking on this occasion, Morocco’s Consul General in Miami, Chafika El Habti, emphasised that the holy month of Ramadan “reminds us of the universal values that unite humanity: compassion, generosity, solidarity, respect and the pursuit of peace”.

She noted that this event embodies precisely the spirit of friendship and dialogue that drives the Kingdom’s actions, recalling in this regard the deep-rooted foundations of Morocco’s commitment to dialogue among civilisations, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.

The Consul went on to refer to the historic visit of His Holiness Pope Francis to Morocco in March 2019, during which the Pontiff and His Majesty King Mohammed VI signed the Al-Quds Appeal, reaffirming the universal and sacred nature of the Holy City for the three monotheistic religions.

El Habti also highlighted the role of the city of Essaouira, a living symbol of the centuries-old coexistence between Muslims and Jews, as well as the work of the Mohammed VI Institute for the Training of Imams and Preachers, an internationally renowned institution for the training of imams and the promotion of a moderate, tolerant and open Islam, whose model now extends from Rabat to Africa, Europe and Asia.

For their part, several guests at the Iftar were keen to pay tribute to the values of openness, coexistence, tolerance and community spirit embodied by the Moroccan model.

They also highlighted the growing influence of Morocco’s presence in Florida, particularly through the work and initiatives of the Kingdom’s Consulate General in Miami.
