Strengthening Morocco-Spain Cooperation: A Spanish Military Delegation on Official Visit to Morocco
As part of the ongoing dynamic of cultural and military cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Kingdom of Spain, an official Spanish delegation led by General Marcos Lagana Navarro, Director of the Institute of Military History and Culture of the Spanish Army, carried out a working visit to Morocco from November 10 to 14, 2025.

This mission reflects the shared willingness of both countries to reinforce the exchange of expertise, particularly in areas related to military history, the preservation of historical memory, and the strengthening of cultural bridges linking Rabat and Madrid for centuries.
Working Session at the Directorate of Military History
The Spanish delegation began its program on Tuesday, November 11, with a working session at the headquarters of the Directorate of Military History. Comprehensive presentations highlighted the missions, structure and achievements of this strategic institution, especially in the preservation, documentation and enhancement of national military heritage.
The presentations also shed light on the historical role of the Alaouite Sovereigns in building the modern Moroccan state, as well as the significant contributions of the Royal Armed Forces in peacekeeping missions at regional and international levels.
Both sides also discussed prospects for strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly surrounding the “Sala de Banderas” project, which aims to further enrich and structure shared military memory.
Heritage Visits in Fez and Tangier
Continuing its tour, the Spanish contingent travelled to Fez, where it visited the Arms Museum located at Borj Nord, as well as Borj Sud, overlooking key historic sites of Morocco’s spiritual capital.
The delegation then proceeded to Tangier to explore the city’s historic fortifications. Visits included the “Dar El Baroud” Museum and the “Ibn Battouta” Museum, both reflecting the cultural and strategic legacy of the city.
An Exemplary and Lasting Partnership
This visit highlights the strength and depth of Moroccan-Spanish relations, built on mutual respect, ongoing consultation and a shared commitment to preserving a common historical and cultural legacy. It also reflects a mutual dedication to further developing cooperation mechanisms related to historical research, the preservation of military memory and the exchange of expertise.
Through this initiative, Rabat and Madrid reaffirm their commitment to consolidating a strategic partnership that promotes stability, knowledge and dialogue between both shores of the Mediterranean.
