Tangier: Official Launch of the New Urban Transport Fleet

The new urban transport fleet was officially launched on Sunday in Tangier, as well as in the municipalities falling within the perimeter of the intermunicipal grouping “Al Boughaz.”

The ceremony marking the entry into service of this new transport fleet, consisting of 280 buses equipped with modern and innovative onboard systems, was presided over by the Wali of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, Younes Tazi, in the presence of the President of the Regional Council, the Mayor of Tangier, and several local officials.

These buses were acquired and equipped by the company Tanja Mobilité, as part of the implementation of the new delegated management model for public bus transport.

This new fleet, acquired within the framework of the renewal of urban and peri-urban transport in the perimeter of the Intermunicipal Cooperation Establishment (ECI) “Al Boughaz,” will be operated by the new delegate CTM-Transdev, which signed the bus network operating contract with the ECI “Al Boughaz” on December 12.

Concluded for a period of ten years, the contract entrusts the new delegate with the management of the operation of the bus transport network. It accompanies a new phase of service modernization, oriented toward the renewal and expansion of the fleet’s capacity, the integration of innovative technological solutions, and the strengthening of standards of quality, accessibility, safety, and efficiency of public service.

In this context, in addition to the development works of the bus maintenance and parking center, several technological systems will be deployed, including an operational assistance and passenger information system, a modern ticketing system, and onboard equipment contributing to improved safety, accessibility, and user comfort.

In a statement to MAP, the President of the Intermunicipal Cooperation Establishment “Al Boughaz” and Mayor of Tangier, Mounir Laymouri, stressed that this fleet represents the culmination of the new delegated management model for urban transport, specifying that it meets international standards and has the primary objective of serving citizens.

For her part, the Chief Executive Officer of “Tanja Mobilité,” Houda Drissi, told the press that this project falls within the framework of the implementation of the new delegated management model for urban transport, launched by the Ministry of the Interior as part of the national strategy for the development of urban transport 2025–2029.

She specified that the buses put into service today are equipped with innovative, high-performance, next-generation systems, designed to strengthen the public service offering, notably through surveillance cameras, Wi-Fi Internet connectivity, and air conditioning systems, in order to ensure passenger comfort.

Meanwhile, the Operations Director of the same company, Rania Khalid, stated that this new fleet is equipped with advanced facilities that take into account improved access for persons with specific needs, as well as a modern ticketing system, noting that the contract signed between the company and the new delegate provides for the development of a maintenance and parking center for these buses.

This transition between operators will take place within a logic of continuity of public service, ensuring operational stability and the quality of service provided to users.

It marks the opening of a new cycle for public bus transport. A new operator is today assuming responsibility for the network for the next ten years, with the ambition of consolidating existing achievements and raising service quality standards.

Through this new contract, the ECI Al Boughaz, Tanja Mobilité, and the new operator reaffirm their shared commitment to modern, reliable, accessible public transport adapted to users’ needs, in compliance with the principles of public service and the requirements of good governance.
