Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch Holds Talks with His Senegalese Counterpart

The Head of Government, Mr Aziz Akhannouch, held talks on Monday, January 26, 2026 in Rabat with the Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Senegal, His Excellency Mr Ousmane Sonko, who is paying a working visit to the Kingdom within the framework of the work of the 15th High Joint Commission for Morocco–Senegal Cooperation, in the presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, and the Ambassador of Morocco to Dakar.

During their talks, both sides affirmed the attachment of the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Senegal to their relations and their shared aspiration to elevate bilateral cooperation to multidimensional levels, in accordance with the will of the two Heads of State, His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, and His Excellency Mr Bassirou Diomaye Faye, President of the Republic of Senegal.

Both parties also stressed that the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Senegal remain faithful to the spirit of fraternity, solidarity and respect that each country upholds for the benefit of the African continent, praising the role of the Moroccan community established in Senegal and the Senegalese community residing in Morocco in enriching the privileged partnership linking the two countries.

The Head of Government highlighted the close human, spiritual and economic ties uniting the two countries, clearly reflected in the eight visits made by His Majesty the King, may God assist Him, to Senegal. He also emphasized the pivotal role of the Republic of Senegal in the Royal Initiatives aimed at promoting development in Africa, notably the Royal Initiative for Atlantic Africa, which seeks to facilitate access for Sahel countries to the Atlantic Ocean.

These talks were also an opportunity to note the qualitative leap recorded in ministerial exchanges, the enrichment of the legal framework governing bilateral cooperation, and the consolidation of the economic partnership and investment relations since the accession of His Excellency Mr Bassirou Diomaye Faye to the Presidency of the Republic of Senegal.

The holding of the 15th High Joint Commission for Morocco–Senegal Cooperation offers an opportunity to strengthen sectoral cooperation between the two countries through the implementation of structuring projects, particularly in the sectors of agriculture, energy, trade, the digital economy and others.
